Confederate Heroes Day 2023 – Dates April 14th

Confederate Heroes Day

Confederate Heroes Day is an annual national holiday observed on different dates throughout the year to honor the estimated 260,000 Confederate soldiers that died during the Civil War. The day is usually commemorated on the second weekend in May, with D-day being the first of the year. It honors those Confederate dead who have been laid in state or federal war cemeteries. Some may also be buried at sea. Some are placed in unmarked graves.

In Montgomery, Alabama, on April 14th, there is to be a candlelight memorial service for those fallen in the war. This is part of the springtime re-enactment of the Civil War in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The south confederate memorial day is not a regular state holiday in the south.

However, the re-enactment serves to raise awareness about the causes and meaning behind the confederate dead who were laid in state or federal war cemeteries. On this day, the state government honors these fallen soldiers through the erection of statues of stars, banners, and plaques.

In the state of Mississippi, on American confederate memorial day, the bronze statue of Robert E. Lee is put up in a location downtown. There will also be a parade down recall street to remember the fallen soldiers of the south. There will be a re-enactment of the Battle of Gettysburg. Efforts are underway to continue preserving and displaying the memories, stories, and heritage of the confederate soldiers that were given a final farewell by General Robert E. Lee.

Efforts by the various states in the US to celebrate the memory of their Confederate military fallen soldiers is an attempt to right past wrongs. Many southern families never forgave the cause of the war. Many lost both their homes and other properties during the war. Many others died. This spirit of remembrance is part of American heritage and is an important part of American civil war remembrance.

Efforts to celebrate this day are planned across the country by citizens, organizations, and communities. A number of cities around the United States are organizing events such as reunion dinners, candlelight dinners, and more to help remember the fallen American civil war heroes. The state of North Carolina is working on a monument project to replace the remaining Confederate battle flags that are now displayed at the state capitol.

Efforts by the state and its citizens to officially recognize the memory of their Confederate ancestors are being met with opposition by some sections of the northern media, which has portrayed the move as a politically motivated stunt by some politically correct folks in the state. In fact, the media portrays the present movement as a reunification effort by some northern states to erase history and whitewash their horrific past.

Although there may be some truth to this perception, the reality is that those pushing for these monuments to be taken down, removed, or destroyed are merely doing the same thing as those who want to erase the South’s long history of free association with the rest of the world. The reunification efforts by the states in the union are not about whitewashing history, but rather a renewed commitment to one nation, the united states, and one flag. Confederate Heroes’ Day is nothing less than a call for white pride and a resurgence of the American spirit.

While we may never learn all that was lost during the Civil War, we can at least learn from the mistakes made and learn from the sacrifice made by the Confederate soldiers.
